LH, in partnership with KOICA, has implemented 26 knowledge sharing programs(385 participants)
to share experience with foreign countries' officials since 2006.
LH aims to develop overseas government officials' knowledge and expertise needed to foster growth
of their countries through various lectures and site visits.
In the 1989, Bundang New Town attempted to supply houses and develop a New Town in accordance with the policy goal of impeding soaring housing prices mainly led by medium and large apartment in Gangnam, Seoul.
As it was one of the most noted New Towns from the aspect of location and scale among the 1st New Towns in the metropolitan area. Thus, the 1st construction started at the end of 1989 and the residents moved in the demonstration complex at the end of 1991. Pankyo is the 2st New Towns in the metropolitan area, it was developed to prevent the possibility of a disorderly development in Pankyo district and to meet the necessity of "development after planning" for solving the issue of the housing shortage in the metropolitan area and to make a rational program with sustainable aspects.
With the view to promoting bio-health industry as a national core strategic area, Korean government has decided to establish high-tech science park in Osong and followed the step by deliberating in the committee of national science and technology. For the effective provision of one-stop service and close network formation among the industry, the academic, the research organization and the government, government-run organization such as KFDA(Korea food and drug administration) will be moved by 2010 and supporting facility such asBio-technology graduate school will be established in Osong Bio-health Science Technopolis.
The old town of Sungnam (1,378ha, 100,000 housing units, 550,000 persons), one of southern municipalities of Capital, Seoul, was formed in 1969 as the emigrant from removal of slum areas in Chunggyechon Seoul moved into(66m2of housing lot was given to each house hold).
Though the population and housing units have increased in number, the immigration of the refugees and unplanned developments have caused the old town into high density with insufficiency in roads, parking lots, other public facilities and amenities. So the urban functions couldn't work well and the residents feel uncomfortable in daily lives.
Therefore the Sungnam City and LH, Jan. 2000, agreed to cooperate for developing the old town (22%, 303.9ha, 26 districts, 60,000 housing units to be constructed) gradually in 3 gradual procedures (2006~2010) with circulatory urban renewal methods.

Boguemjari Housing is a comprehensive concept of mid-to-small size houses and houses for rent built by government entities. Unlike previous system that is mostly driven by housing suppliers, this new concept emphasizes in distributing different types of housings according to residents' income levels. Thus, Boguemjari Housing is expected to change current housing market system from supply-driven to demand-based.
Nangok district, the last hillside slum in Seoul, had previously been designated as a redevelopment region in 1997. Originally, a giant private construction firm was to run the redevelopment project but soon abandoned the plan because no profit could be made. The project to redevelop the area was brought back when LH was selected to lead the assignment in June, 2000. The redevelopment project was successively completed in September, 2006 by applying the circular redevelopment project which uses rental housing near the project site for residents' temporary sheltering. One of the significant PPP project sites "Meta-polis" will show what is the main concept of Project financing. It is in the southern Gyeonggi Province, approximately 40 km south of Seoul and it is under construction of two 66 stories building that will be composed of residential, commercial ,office and etc. This probably will be very helpful to understand the modern trend of multi mixed building.
It is developed as a pilot residential development project of Korea Land & Housing Corporation for the symbol of new millennium (2000s). It is located near the new town of Bundang and provided 3,138 housing units including both single-family housing units and multi-family housing units. For the better quality of life at the new millennium residential site, it is developed as Master-Architect Team which includes several professors out of LH and distinguished professional staffs in LH. The site area is 408,829m2, and floor area ratio is 170.97%. Construction started in 1998 and completed occupancy in 2001.

The Museum of City and Housing, a specially designed place for the history of residential culture and the history of urbanism, was established by KNHC, which has been playing the leading role in the development of residential culture in Korea, is now giving you the unique chance to have great insight into the history of housing and it's chronological changes at from ancient times to nowadays at a glance.
Hansol Village was provided as the first permanent public rental housing program by 'Two Million Housing Construction Plan'in 1989. 1420 residents who would be disadvantaged groups such as very low income families, disabled, and alone elderly have been lived in this site from 1994. At present, there are 190,000 units of permanent public rental housing in Korea and are for recipients of basic living subsidy payments who are under the lowest poverty level. Korea's public rental housing is similar to the public rental housing in the US form eligibility perspectives though the social problems arising from occupation of these house by the poorest people can be likened to both European countries and the US. In any case, the permanent rental housing system came to an end in 1992 owing to financial difficulties
Participants can witness vivid images of the Urban Renewal process of the 21st century from the beginning to the end in the KNHCs' 'Urban Redevelopment Information Hall' in Seongnam-city. Participants can also get a glimpse of the KNHC's entire urban redevelopment projects including residential environment improvement, housing redevelopment, urban renewal, reconstruction, remodeling and new town projects, and the readily-created new urban spaces for the sake of residents' advantage.

The Cheonggyecheon Museum opened on September 26, 2005 to offer visitors a vision of the history and culture of the Cheonggyecheon at a glance. The museum is a six-level building located the end of Cheonggeycheon stream. You can see and hear the past, present and future of the stream as well as the whole restoration process from the professional cultural heritage commentators. The Information gotten in the museum would help you understand more while walking up the Cheonggyecheon.

Heunginjimun Gate, which is also named Dongdaemun Gate, is the main east gate of the city wall. It was first built in 1398 and rebuilt in 1869 in its present form. One of the main characteristics of this gate is the outer bafflewall, built in a semicircle to entrap enemies who tried to enter the gate. The base is a granite structure with a single arch, above which is wooden superstructure in the form of a two-storied pavilion, five-gan (a measure of the distance between two pillars) wide and two-gan deep, with a hipped roof. There is much ornamentation in the pavilion design, displaying the skill of the Joseon Dynasty-era artisans. The tongue-shaped ornamentation atop the columns is typical of the wooden architecture of the late Joseon period.
The Bora residential site is located at Yongin city near Seoul Metropolitan as 35km to south. This site was developed in order to commemorate the company's 40years of anniversary for housing construction. The site area is 821,200m2, and floor area ratio is 165%. This site is consisted of 9 site units and of 4,516 housing units. Construction started in 2000 and completed occupancy in 2006. In order to compose the skyline, house number of layers is changed by massing and volumes to versatile housing typology in landscape. Pedestrian mall is composed of green space with street furniture for safety.

Susie area in Yongin Cityis a famous place as a non-region-wide planned development in suburbanization of Greater Seoul Region. Dongtan development district in Hwaseong City is big new town to response land and housing development demands in Greater Seoul Region. The development type of this area is different from its Yongin Susie area. On our experiences, region-wide plan making and construction should bring efficient and effective result for managing land and housing demands in metropolitan region during fast suburbanization.
KNHC is constructing midsize new town in Osan City. This development district is also to construct new town. We can learn and experiencethe development strategy and plan about development and conservation issue in metropolitan region.
Kwang Myoung Chulsan Residential site is located at Kwang Myoung City, approximately 17km south of Seoul. This site is one of the residential environment improvements, which was developed by KNHC in 1995. Constriction started in 1998 and occupancy completed in 2002. <The site area is 69,466,600m2, and gross floor area is 273,104,440m2, building coverage is 16.95%, and floor area ratio is 274.97%. This site is consisted of 2 complexes and 2,351 housing units are dwelling in this area (Selling for 1,117, Rental for 1,234 units)>
The Bupyung is located in Incheon city which is one of western municipalities. In early 1980s, some people started to sell seafood soup in this street and nowadays there are 12 restaurants which sell seafood soup. As time goes by, many specialists, NGOs and local governments are trying to develop this street as the unique and special site so that this street was designated as 'street for seafood soup(length-0.28km, width-15m)' in 1995, and they make an effort to promote the commercial area.
Buchon Gokang Park is an ecological park which contains prehistoric remains of residential area. But the chain of mountain was damaged during the kyung-in highway construction so that only the small hill, in which the prehistoric relics were founded, is remaining as a park nowadays. So local citizens put an effort to recover the chain of mountain as it would be and expand the cultural facilities such as museum in order to make this park as a core property in Gokang area.
The new town of Jangwi, one of the 25 new towns developed by Seoul si, is located in Seongbukdong. This new town was carefully planned from its inception and is constructed in a previously undeveloped area. This site was designated as new town district in 2005 and became a pilot district in 2006. Environment-friendly estate is planning to promote and community spaces are designed in this new town. (Total area of this project: 1,867,851m2, Housing Units: 23,846 including 4,071 of rental housing, Floor area ratio : 203~250%, Number of stories : 4~35 floors, The period of construction : from 2006 to 2016).
Yongin is in the middle of Gyeonggi Province, approximately 40 km south of Seoul. KNHC has been building 5,191 housing units since Jul. 2005 at Yongin Gusung district. It is composed of residential buildings which stories are from 4 to 20 and other facilities such as basement parking lots. Site visitors will observe the construction of residential buildings which progress is about 50%.
A Display House (also called a Model Home or Model House or House Portrait Model) is a display version of manufactured homes. It shows the living space and features of different models of homes available to the consumer. The display house at Yongin Guseung District was opened in Mar, 2007. There are two types of display houses: 74m2 and 84m2(private area).
There are about 11,600 homeless people in Korea. They generally live in the center of the city since their working places are located in downtown area. Most of theirresidence in not equipped with facilities such as toilet or kitchen etc. For these people, guidance clinic center for the homeless is held in the area of Jong-Ro, which is the typical residence for the homeless in the metropolis, Seoul.
KNHC is providing low-cost housings, which KNHC purchase or lease, to the homeless through a managing organization. Several people live together in this purchased multi-unit tenement house underthe guidance of a managing organization. We will visit one of the rental housing for the homeless which is located near Seodamun in Seoul.
The Hangang, which is located in the middle of Korean Peninsula, has been the base of Korean people's lives throughout the eternal history of 5,000 years. The Hangang, which is mixed two streams flowing from Mt. Taebak and Keumgang, flows to West Sea via Seoul. The total length is 497.5km and average width is between 600 to 1,200m. There are 29 bridges across the river. From late 1980's, 6 key projects including Hangang Renaissance were being proceeding under the '4-year Master Plan for Municipal Administration' in order to commercialize Hangang as a tourism product and recreate the Hangang park as ecological spaces as well as cultural and historical spaces.
Sunyu-do Park is an ecological park as well as "water park" which have reused the filtration plant in Han Riverinto facilities and structures in the park. People enjoy various aquatic plants and ecological forests in water-quality purifying garden, aquatic plants'garden, environment-friendly playground, etc. Diverse attractive spots and rest areas provide ecology-oriented educational experiences and natural activities. It shows what is like to keep the site's memory and traces in newly developed public spaces.
The national rental housing is a sort of public rental housing constructed with government financing and the National Housing Fund. This estate is one of the national rental housing estates which were built by KNHC. This is located in Naesondong, Euiwang City. There are 822 national housing units of 8 building in estate. Each housing unit is less than 60m2.
Heyri heads for the art village that communicates the culture with the variety genre in the one space. At first, this village was designed as 'the book village' linked Paju Publishing Townin 1997. But in the processing of the project, lots of artists in various cultural fields joined it. And the concept of the village was expanded to 'cultural art village'. Now above three hundred seventy members are building their artistic spaces, houses, work rooms, museums, galleries. Heyri, the name of village, is quoted from the title "the Sound of Heyri" which is the traditional farming song at Paju city in Gyeonggi-do.
Sanbon new town was developed as a large self-contained city by inviting the administrative offices of the city and constructing various public and welfare facilities. Preservation of its beautiful landscape was given high priority at the time of development (Number of Housing Units :41,990, Construction Period : 1989-1987 , Construction Area : 4,349,000m2 )
The south of Kyeonggi provincial area where the Yongin-Kiheung Field Project Office covers is one of the most vibrant housing construction sites in Korea. Participants will be invited to see the actual construction site for the Public Housing by KNHC.
Jamshil Area, flooded districts during rainy season, was developed in early 1970s. KNHC changed one district(1.14ha) of Jamshil area into a good residential site by constructing 19,180 low-and high rise apartment housing from 1975 to 1977. The average size of housing unit was less than 40 m2. At that time, Jamshil Apartment Complex was the cornerstone of massive housing supply by KNHC. Recently small sized apartments are rebuilt by private company.
Sangye Area(3.34ha), the northern part of Seoul, was developed to new town in city form 1986 to 1989 according to the Promotional Act for Housing Sites Development. KNHC constructed not only 40,224 high-rise apartment housing units but also large-scale central business district. At first, 25-story apartment was built in Sangye area. Knhc provided the permanent public rental housings for the lowest-income family. Nowadays Sangye area is the subcenter of Northern Seoul.
