Introduction

LH, in partnership with KOICA, has implemented 26 knowledge sharing programs(385 participants)
to share experience with foreign countries' officials since 2006.
LH aims to develop overseas government officials' knowledge and expertise needed to foster growth
of their countries through various lectures and site visits.

Course Objectives
To provide overall knowledge on Korea's urban and regional development, housing(including Housing design, housing management, housing finance etc.) and urban (including new town, urban regeneration, urban planning etc.) management policies which have been accumulated since 1960s in order for the participants and the government officials to use the information to establish their own policy to overcome their domestic concerns about sustainable urban and regional development.
Training Participants
  • Should be government officials preferably in the mid-senior level or higher
  • Should be public enterprises' officials preferably in the senior level or higher

Gyeongju Cultural & Historical Sites

Gyeongju, one of cultural historical cities of Korea, is referred to the one of famous Mecca of cultural historical sites in Korea having the Gyeongju National Museum we can get a complete view of the 'Silla Dynasty' at a glance. This museum, as the downtown Gyeongju vicinity, contains 100,000 pieces of valuable relics recovered in and around Gyeongju.
And 'Bulguksa Temple' as the vicinity of Mt. Tohamsan, was built with a combination of stylish architecture which was designated as the UNESCO Cultural Heritage on December 6, 1995. In the Bulguksa Temple, we can see the Dabotap and Seokgatap pagoda. And other famous historical and cultural sites is 'Seokgulam Grotto', which was also designated as the UNESCO Cultural Heritage on December 6, 1995.

Hyundai Heavy Industries

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) seeks to maintain the vision of becoming a Global Leader in the heavy industries sector. HHI founded by the late Chung Ju-yung on March 23, 1972, HHI took its independent way after having completed a spin-off from the Hyundai Group in February 2002, ceaselessly pursuing a top position in the world's heavy industry fields.
HHI has a worldwide business network in each of its six main divisions: Shipbuilding, Offshore & Engineering, Industrial Plant & Engineering, Engine & Machinery, Electro Electric Systems and Construction Equipment. This year the Marketing Division was newly established to undertake and incorporate the marketing/sales operations of HHI's three business divisions: Shipbuilding, Offshore & Engineering, and Industrial Plant & Engineering.

Hyundai Motors

Hyundai Motors was established in December 1967. In the early 1980's, fueled by rapid economic growth, Hyundai invested in a major expansion of its Ulsan plant, transitioning from low-volume to high-volume manufacturing. During the late 1980's, the company prepared for the intense competition they would face in the 1990's. Hyundai Motor Company endured a difficult year in 1998, a period of company-wide and industry-wide restructuring, as domestic sales sharply declined. The acquisition of Kia/Asia Motors will allow Hyundai Motors to achieve the economics of scale needed to compete in the global market.

POSCO

POSCO has been the most competitive steel company since its establishment in 1968.As a world-class company, it continues to grow and evolve. Operating a total of five hot-strip mills and one mini-mill, POSCO produces some 21.24 million tons of hot rolled sheet annually, of which 9.35 million tons are delivered to customers in the form of finished products for use in automobiles, steel structures, steel pipe, home appliances and a variety of other products. A portion of the hot-rolled sheet output is further processed into value-added products such as cold-rolled products and electrical sheet.

SK Energy

SK Corporation Ulsan Complex launched its production of petroleum products in 1964. SK Corp consists of 5 refinery facilities, which treat 840 thousand barrels/day, while producing petroleum products such as gasoline, light fuel oil and Bunker C fuel oil. They have the largest market share, and with accumulated technology by operating their own landfill sites, they are using landfill gas from public landfill sites as an alternative energy source for nearby companies.

Samsung Electronics

Samsung Electronics is one of the world's largest microchip makers. Samsung Electronics is also South Korea's top electronics company. It makes many kinds of consumer devices, including DVD players, big-screen televisions, and digital cameras; computers, color monitors, LCD panels, and printers; semiconductors such as DRAM, SPRM, and flash memory and communications devices ranging from wireless phones to networking switches. The company, which is the flagship member of Samsung Group, also makes microwave ovens, refrigerators, air conditioners, and washing machines.

Youngwang Nuclear Power Plant

KHNP(Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power) is the largest among the six power generating subsidiaries, accounting for approximately 29% of electricity producing facilities, hydro and nuclear combined. KHNP also operates nuclear plants in Kori, Youngwang, Ulchin and Wolsong, and several hydroelectric generation facilities in the Hangang system, providing approximately 40% of the nation's power supply. Participants will visit the exhibition hall in Youngwang nuclear power headquarters. It was established in 1987 for the purpose of let visitors know about the outline and development process of nuclear power, and visitors are going to looking around nuclear power plant as well as hydroelectric power plant.

Jeonju Hanok Village

There are 900 Traditional Hanoks(Traditional Korean House) including Jeonju Traditional Cultural Center, Jeonju Traditional Korean Life Experience Park, Jeonju Traditional Wine Museum, Jeonju Treasures Center, Geonggijeon Shrine, Omokdae where you can get a breath of traditional culture and discover narrow old streets and heritage houses. This is the biggest Hanok complex in Koreaand you can also see the traditional residential formation of our ancestor because ancestor's culture has been well preserved. Jeonju has a unique history of a thousand of royal culture, the Jeonju Hanok Village District offers all the excitementof traditional cultural living with over 900 traditional Hanoks(Houses) and all the exhilaration of nature and sightseeing just minutes from downtown. With 2002 World Cup in Jeonju as a momentum, Hanok Village District Development Projects is boosted by promoting historic sites and traditional cultural facilities such as Gyeonggijeon, Jeondong Cathedral, Pungnam-dong, Omokdae, Hyanggyo, Geonhwon fortress, Namgo Fortress, Traditional Cultural Center, Treasure Center, Traditional Korean Life Experience Park, Wine Museum, Jeonju Traditional Korean Paper Center, Herb Medicine Cultural Center, etc. and also Traditional Crafts Room, Traditional Tea house and Traditional Restaurants can be found.

Electronics and Telecommunication Research Institute

"ETRI was established to fulfill these purposes!"
IT Creates, develops, and popularizes new knowledge and technology of information, communications, and the electronics field. Also, it trains specialists to contribute to the development of the economy and society.
Established in 1976, ETRI is a non-profit government-funded research organization that has been at the forefront of technological excellence for more than 25 years. Our research institute has successfully developed information technologies such as TDX-Exchange, High Density Semiconductor Microchips, Mini-Super Computer (TiCOM), and Digital Mobile Telecommunication System (CDMA). As a recognized leader in the information and telecommunication research institute in Korea, we will strive to be the best in the fields of information and telecommunications.

The New Asan City (including PENTAPORT)

Asan City, the biggest new city ever built, began with the construction of 7,804 household apartments and was successfully completed, with 100% distribution, in 2006(Size : 26 millionm2. And the construction of the Pentaport, a 66-story, 793-household super high-rise commercial-residential apartment, began in October 2007 in Buldang, Cheonan City. When step 2 of the development project is completed, by 2016, Asan Citywill become a large city with a total of 66,000 households and a population of 200,000.
In addition, Asan City has rapid transit networks such as the KTX and subway in the capital area, the national railroad junghang line, and a fast road network connected to the West Sea Highway, so it takes only 34 minutes to Seoul and 20 minutes to Daejeon.
The landmark of Asan is 'Pentaport' that is located in the center of Asan new city. It was designed differently from the very beginning: it has 5 functions such as residential, business, commercial, cultural entertainment, and water space in addition to the Moving walk that is connected from Asan station to Cyclone Tower so that it will satisfy every parts about the economic, cultural, and investment value of Asan. Everything is prepared as the best such as the super high-rise Cyclone Tower, department stores, Multiplex Movie Theater, complex cultural spaces, natural river spaces.

Korea Ginseng Factory

Ginseng is the root of our life that has been regularly used for 2000 years or more. It is a historically boastful specialty that has been one of our trading articles. The value and pride of Korean ginseng have been recognized home and overseas, inheriting the spirit of ginseng. In 1978, the Korea Ginseng Corp. opened the Korea Ginseng Factory in Buyeo, Chungcheongnam province.

The Exhibition hall of Saemangeum

The Saemangeum project is a construction project to develop a total 40,100ha of land by building a 33km long sea dike through Gunsan, Gimie, and Buan in Jeollabuk-do province (Land: 28,300ha, Fresh water lake:11,800ha, Project period : 21 years, from 1991 to 2011). The Saemangeum will be developed into a world-class environment-friendly reclaimation model. By developing this project, there are several needs for effect such as the expansion of the territory, the creation of excellent farmland on a large scale, and securing water resources, etc. In order to let people know about the process and history of the project, the exhibition hall of Saemangeum is opened between 9 to 6 everyday.

Seoul Grand Park

Seoul Grand Park, consisting of three different areas of Education, Natural culture and Amusement, has been internationally reputed for diverse amusements. Zoological gardens of Seoul Grand Park, the tenth largest zoo in the world in size, keep over 3,400 individual animals. And greenhouse plant gardens keep over 1,300 plant species. In addition visitors can enjoy various types of amusement facilities such as magic carpet, the black hole. With scenic beauty that varies from season to season, Seoul Grand Park holds seasonal events all year round.

Andong Hahoe Village

Andong Hahoe Village has preserved the housing architecture and the village structure of the Joseon dynasty. The village was not artificially created; there are people who actually live there.
Three sides of Hahoe Village (Main Folk Asset No.122) is surrounded by the Nakdonggang River. The river swirls around the village, the village is named Hahoe, and is also called the spinning river village.
Next to Hahoe village are many pine trees and a soft sand plain, and across from it are beautiful cliffs. The public knew this village by a Confusian scholar of the Joseon Dynasty(1392~1910), Gyeomam Yu Un-Ryong (1539~1601) and Seoae Yu Seong-Ryong(1542~1607) who had done great deeds during the Imjin War (Japanese invasion in 1592).
Because the village is surrounded with mountains and water, it had never been invaded. This is the reason why these houses still remain in their original structure. There are 180 tional treasures, such as Yangjindang (No.306) and Chunghyodang (No.414).there are other important folk material such as the Hahoe Bukchon House (No.84), Hahoe Namchon House(No.90) and Hahoe Juilje(No.91).
